Sustainable Furniture: Love Your Home and Planet.

If you’re looking for ways to, not just make your home more stylish and comfortable, but eco-friendly too, you might want to consider investing in sustainable furniture. Sustainable furniture is made from materials with a low environmental impact, such as reclaimed wood, recycled plastic, organic cotton, or bamboo. Sustainable and eco furniture also lasts longer, reduces waste, and supports ethical practices.

At Love Your Home, we are passionate about creating beautiful and sustainable furniture that you can enjoy for years. We source our materials responsibly, use natural or low VOC finishes (ones with lower solvents), and design our products with durability and functionality. In this post, we’ll share some of our favourite pieces from our eco-friendly furniture collection. Whether you’re looking for a sustainable sofa, bed, or chair, we have something for every taste and budget.

Why Choose Sustainable Furniture?

Sustainable furniture design has many advantages over conventional furniture for you and the environment. Here are some of the reasons why you should choose eco and sustainable furniture for your home:

- It reduces your carbon footprint: By choosing sustainable furniture brands, such as Love Your Home, that utilise recycled or renewable materials, you can help save energy and resources that would otherwise be used to produce new materials. You can also avoid contributing to deforestation, pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions associated with conventional furniture production.

- It improves your indoor air quality: Many conventional furniture products contain harmful chemicals, such as formaldehyde, flame retardants, or volatile organic compounds (VOCs), that can release harmful gas into your home and affect your health. Sustainable furniture is made from natural or low-VOC materials that are safer for you and your family.

- It supports social and environmental causes: By buying products made from sustainable furniture materials, you can support the livelihoods of artisans and workers who make the products in fair and ethical conditions. You can also support the conservation of natural habitats and biodiversity threatened by unsustainable practices.

- It adds character and charm to your home: Green sustainable furniture often has a unique and rustic look that can enhance the style and personality of your home. You can find sustainable furniture in various colours, textures, shapes, and sizes that suit any décor.

- It lasts longer and saves you money: Sustainable eco furniture such as our Kate Watson-Smyth Collection is designed to be durable and easy to maintain so that you can invest in long-lasting pieces.

Our Sustainable Furniture Collection

Vita Sofa in Recycled Velvet, Mulberry

Vita Armchair in Recycled Velvet, Red Earth

We are delighted to introduce you to the Kate Watson-Smyth collection, a sustainable furniture collaboration with the interiors journalist and author of the interiors blog Mad About The House. We have a lot in common with Kate: we both love design, we both care about quality, and we both want to make a positive impact on the planet.

Together, we created the Vita sustainable sofa and armchair, two stunning pieces of ethical furniture combining style, comfort, and sustainability. The Vita sofa is a beautiful piece of eco-furniture with contemporary curved shapes and removable covers that you can change as often as you like. The covers come in either recycled velvet or cotton. The recycled velvet is made from 100% recycled plastic bottles and woven using solar energy, while 80% of the cotton is made from offcuts from the fashion industry, saving hugely on wasted material, water usage and carbon emissions. They are also certified by OEKO-TEX and GRS (Global Recycled Standard), which means they are free from harmful substances and have a low environmental impact.

What’s more, the Vita sofa and armchair are built to last rather than following fast fashion trends. They have an FSC-certified wooden frame, recycled chip foam, and a ‘Cocolok’ coconut fibre dipped in natural latex instead of petroleum foam. The coconut fibre helps keep the sofa and armchair fresh and airy, while the latex adds bounce and durability.

The Kate Watson-Smyth collection is proudly designed and made in the UK to help reduce our carbon footprint and support local artisans.

Sustainable Sofas That Don’t Disappoint

We believe that sustainability is not just a trend but a responsibility; that's why we are so proud of our sustainable sofas. Look through the below and discover just what makes our sofas sustainable.

- We use natural and recycled fabrics for our sofa covers, such as cotton, linen, wool, and velvet. These fabrics are durable, breathable, and biodegradable, giving our eco sofas a luxurious feel. We also offer a range of vegan-friendly fabrics made from recycled plastic bottles, such as our recycled cotton and velvet options. These fabrics are soft, stain-resistant, and easy to clean and help save thousands of plastic bottles from ending up in landfill.

- We use FSC-certified wood for our sofa frames, meaning the wood comes from responsibly managed forests that protect biodiversity and indigenous peoples’ rights. We also use water-based glues and low-VOC paints to minimise harmful emissions and odours. Our sofa frames are built to last, with solid beech wood and reinforced joints, so you can enjoy your eco-friendly sofa for years to come.

- We use natural fillings for our sofa cushions, such as feathers, down, and wool. These fillings are renewable, biodegradable, and hypoallergenic, providing superior comfort and support. We also offer synthetic fillings made from recycled materials such as eco-fibre and eco-foam. These fillings are soft, resilient, and vegan-friendly.

- We use eco-friendly packaging for our sofas, such as cardboard boxes, paper tape, and biodegradable plastic bags. We also use minimal packaging to reduce waste and save space. Our sofas are delivered in parts that can be easily assembled at home, which makes them easier to transport and fit through narrow doors and staircases.

As you can see, we care deeply about making our sofas eco-friendly without compromising on quality or style.

At Love Your Home, we offer a range of sustainable furniture options, from classic and contemporary sofas and beds to bespoke designs. All our furniture is handmade in the UK with love and care and has a lifetime guarantee.
