Combining Modernist and cutting-edge contemporary design, Kirsty’s Gore's nordic-inspired all-white home is stylish, cosy and timeless.

For Kirsty Gore, interior design isn’t just a career - it’s a lifestyle. Sharing home inspo and décor tips with her 200k Instagram followers on @kjg_home, building her interior design business and raising three kids, her creativity and commitment over the course of the last 5 years is wholly inspiring. Motivated by a love of design, “I have always had a passion for interiors”, she told us. “Design feels a part of me.”

After renovating her mother’s bungalow, Kirsty and her husband, Danny, embarked on their biggest project yet - their 1960s family home in York. “We’re a family of five with three teenage children”, she told us. “We love the area, so moving wasn’t an option. We wanted to create the perfect space for us.”

Building a double-story extension and reconfiguring the downstairs to create a sweeping open-plan kitchen/living room, they transformed the ‘60s house into a dazzling contemporary home. “Continuity and fluidity was important”, she explained. “I’m a huge fan of neutral aesthetics...simple, contemporary designs that stand the test of time.”

What stood out to us most about Kirsty’s home was the colour scheme. From Audrey Hepburn's famous black dress and pearls, to 1920's art deco interiors - the white and black aesthetic is clean and timeless. Kirsty’s home is no exception.

Eluding colour clashes, the neutral walls and black and white furnishings create a sleek, nordic look. Paired with large windows and glass panels, the white tones maximize light and space - producing an airy feel.

But the white interior is far from cold. With ambient, stylish lamps and a modern wood burning stove projecting a warm glow throughout the living area, the house has a cosy, hygge feel about it.

Avoiding middle grayscale tones, the simplicity of these hues draws the eye to the curvaceous forms and clean, elegant lines of the furnishings.

Perhaps most notably, Kirsty’s living room features a beautiful Ottilie sofa, in Angora Linen. “For me, the seating was the most important aspect.” She told us, “Love Your Home had the contemporary designs I was after...I loved the fact I could customize with size, the type of seat cushion...to make it my own creation.”

Critics tend to chastise white furniture for being too pristine. After all, it’s impossible to miss dirt and spillages. But upholstered in stain resistant linen, with added stain guard protection, this wasn’t an issue for Kirsty. “Having a light aesthetic can be worrying for people who have animals and children”, she explained, “the Stain Resistant Pressed Linen in Angora eased my mind - knowing if my kids spilled something it wouldn’t mark.”

To compliment the Ottilie, Kirsty’s living room features a Dylan Footstool in Leopard Boucle and two Isaac Chairs in 'Sourdough’, Artisan Weave. Combining a modernist 1950’s design with a contemporary twist, the Isaac’s curved backs, simple piping and tapered wooden legs inject a chic, scandanavian style, whilst oozing comfort.

“As my home has a neutral aesthetic, textures and form are really important”, Kirsty elaborated. “Mixing irregular forms with curves and straight lines is one of my favourite things to do...adding the Isaac chairs in the Artisan Weave sourdough boucle fabric was the perfect balance...I was so pleased with the final look that I couldn’t resist the Hepworth chair in the sourdough boucle fabric for the lobby area.”

White walls and minimal decor has defined the zeitgeist of the past 5 years of the online design world. Kirsty takes this a step further - sprinkling her all-white home, with black accents, curvaceous lines and warm lighting.

Using a simple palette of black and white hues - the decor and furnishings compromise neither comfort nor character. Combining modernist and cutting-edge contemporary design, Kirsty’s home is the ideal, stylish retreat for slowing down and curling up in comfort. We’ve no doubt this beautiful family home will be treasured for years to come.
