Traditional silhouettes
The classic poise of Eliza, the innocent curves and sturdy legs, would work nicely as a backdrop to a dastardly country house crime. The details to delight in are a fixed and padded back, just the perfect rake for reclining.

Making traditional feel a little more contemporary
I'd say the most convincing approach is not usually to modernise every traditional element you might find in your home.
If you're lucky enough to have traditional 'bones' in your space, retain them and introduce contemporary contrast selectively.
A room with original cornicing and a marble fireplace could be updated with a large abstract painting, a contemporary lamp, and a more tailored sofa. A simplified palette, and clean-lined upholstery on a traditional form can be an excellent mid-point if you know you want traditional with a contemporary twist.
