The Lovely Bones Book Cover

We have had such an amazing summer this year, the sun has been shining non-stop throughout the day and I’m sure there have been fabulous smells of barbequed meat filling the air of everyones gardens. However, the air has now got a bite to it, and our bones are a little chilly coming into the month of October. What better way to enjoy the inside of our warm and cozy houses by sitting by the fire and reading a good ol’ book.

Finding a good book is key, and once you have found a brilliant read, most people often say they cannot put it down once they’re into it. This is why I have chosen one of my favourite ever reads to get us all inspired to start reading more and enjoying the company of a good book! You may have heard of this spine-chilling thriller that has since been made into a movie –Yes, can you already guess what it is? The Lovely Bones written by Alice Seebold is a tale of a family devastated and broken by a gruesome murder- a murder of an innocent, vulnerable and shy young teenage girl called Susie Salmon. Susie watches in her heaven as her family grieves, suffers and falls apart with their devastation. Susie overlooks as her family desperately try and piece together the culprit who took her life away and how they continually search for answers.

The Lovely Bones

The novel is written from the protagonist and thus creates strong emotion for the reader , making us feel emotionally attached to Susie and her story. We go through Susie and her families mystery, placing ourselves within the novels plot too, becoming engrossed in this victim’s murder. The novel evokes ideologies of life after death and offers a new outlook on life, death and everything in-between. After reading this fantastic novel, you will feel as if you have gained insight into life, and your own life and recognise how valuable it is.

The Lovely Bones

I highly recommend this book if you fancy a mysterious, yet easy read with strong and powerful emotions within the plot. A true novel that will seriously make you think twice about taking life for granted!

I am now hoping you feel a little more inspired to put those specs on and rekindle your love with the books as I am! Plus In the middle of October there is a fabulous event in Guildford known as the Book Festival that will also inspire you to read more.
